← BackTerms of Use
Effective: May 2026 · Last updated: May 26, 2026 (passkey/WebAuthn auth · §1A added; §5 biometric clarification)
The short version
- By using Trendosity you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Statement, and our Messaging Notice.
- Be 13+. Be yourself. Don't harass anyone. Don't scrape the service.
- Your recommendations are your personal opinions, not professional advice.
- You can delete your account anytime from Settings — we'll remove your data within 30 days.
- Disputes are handled by arbitration on an individual basis (no class actions) in New York; you can opt out within 30 days.
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) form a binding contract between you and Trendosity (“we”, “us”, “our”) and govern your access to and use of the Trendosity website, applications, and services (collectively, the “Service”). Please read them carefully. By creating an account, accessing the Service, or otherwise indicating acceptance, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility & account
You must be at least 13 years old to use Trendosity. If you are between 13 and the age of majority where you live, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. You must provide accurate information when you create your account and keep it current. You're responsible for everything that happens under your account — including any content posted, any messages sent, and any actions taken — and for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. You may not let anyone else use your account, impersonate another person, or maintain more than one account except as expressly permitted. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we're required by law to suspend.
1A. Authentication, passkeys, and biometrics
Trendosity supports three sign-in methods: (a) Sign in with Google (OAuth — we request only your name, email, and profile photo); (b) Magic link email (one-time link sent to an email address you control); and (c) Passkeys (WebAuthn — Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, fingerprint readers, or hardware security keys). We do not use passwords.
When you enroll a passkey, your device generates a public-private keypair locally. The private key never leaves your device; we never see it. We store only your public credential id, public key, a monotonic signature counter (for replay-attack defense), optional transport hints, and the device label you choose. We never receive biometric data — your face image, fingerprint template, and similar biometric inputs are processed entirely by your device's OS-level authenticator and never reach our servers. By enrolling a passkey you agree to keep the device that holds it under your sole control and to deauthorise the passkey from Settings (or, for synced passkeys, from iCloud Keychain / Google Password Manager / 1Password / your password manager of choice) if the device is lost, sold, or shared.
If your platform (iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, third-party password managers) syncs the passkey across your devices, that sync is between your devices and your password manager — Trendosity is not party to that sync and cannot inspect it. You are responsible for the security of any device on which your passkey resides.
2. The Service
Trendosity is a private friend-to-friend recommendation network. You sign in, build your circle of friends, and share recommendations (“recs”) across categories. Recs you post are visible to your circle by default and to the wider public only if you mark them or your profile public. The Service is provided as a research preview and is offered “as available” — features may change, break, or be removed without notice during the preview period. We may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service at any time.
3. License you grant us
You retain ownership of the recs and other content you post (“Your Content”). By posting Your Content, you grant Trendosity a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sub-licensable, transferable license to host, store, cache, reproduce, format, display, distribute, translate, and create derivative works of Your Content solely for the purposes of: operating and improving the Service (e.g., resizing your photo, formatting your rec for the discover feed, indexing for search); enforcing these Terms; complying with applicable law; and analyzing aggregate, de-identified usage patterns. This license terminates when you delete Your Content, except for backups retained for legal/safety reasons and for any version of Your Content that other users have already saved, copied, or shared offline. We will never sell Your Content. We will never use Your Content to train third-party generative AI models.
4. License you grant other users
Recs you make visible to your circle or to the public are visible to those audiences and may be saved, shared, or referenced by them within and outside the Service in the ordinary course of how the Service works (for example, a friend can share your public rec link with their own friends). Friends may reference your recs in their own answers to questions on the Service. You should not post anything you would not be comfortable seeing reshared by the people who can see it.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to, and not to attempt to or assist anyone else to:
- Post content that is illegal, hateful, harassing, defamatory, fraudulent, threatening, intimate or sexual without consent, or otherwise violates anyone's rights.
- Post content that promotes or facilitates harm — physical or financial — to yourself or others, including dangerous goods, weapons of mass destruction, child sexual abuse material, suicide/self-injury content, doxxing, or instructions to commit illegal acts.
- Recommend businesses, services, or products that are illegal where the recipient is likely to act on the rec.
- Impersonate another person, business, or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation.
- Use the Service to send spam, unsolicited promotional content, chain messages, or unauthorized commercial communications.
- No scraping or automated access. Scrape, crawl, spider, harvest, index, cache, mass-export, or otherwise extract content or data from the Service — whether by manual or automated means, headless browsers, residential proxies, screen-recording, OCR, or any other technique — except through documented APIs that we explicitly publish for that purpose with a valid API key issued to you by Trendosity. Rate limits, robots.txt directives, and TOS-Bot signals are binding.
- No reverse engineering. Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, decrypt, deobfuscate, modify, or create derivative works of the Service, our client apps, our APIs, our SDKs, our protocols, our database schemas, or any other component or underlying technology — nor attempt to derive any of the foregoing — except to the extent (and only to the extent) that applicable law expressly forbids waiving this restriction. You may not remove, alter, or obscure any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary-rights notice.
- No unauthorized third-party integrations. Build, distribute, operate, or use any third-party integration, plug-in, browser extension, bookmarklet, wrapper, bridge, MCP server, AI agent connector, mobile-app companion, or other tool that interacts with the Service, reads from or writes to the Service, automates interactions with the Service, or accesses or stores user content from the Service — without Trendosity's prior written approval, which we may grant, condition, deny, suspend, or revoke at our sole discretion. We may require partners to enter a written integration agreement before such use is permitted.
- Bypass, attempt to bypass, or assist anyone in bypassing security features, rate limits, content moderation, access controls, paywalls, privacy settings, or any other protective measure.
- Use the Service to develop a competing product or service, or to train a generative AI model on data accessible to you through the Service (whether your own content or others').
- Upload viruses, worms, malware, ransomware, or other harmful code.
- Interfere with, disrupt, or impose an unreasonable load on the Service or its infrastructure.
- Misuse our APIs in ways that exceed published rate limits or quotas.
- Submit, in any field of the Service, sensitive personal data we have not specifically requested — including bank account or payment card numbers, government IDs, biometric source data (face images, fingerprint templates, voice samples), precise geolocation data, health information, or other categories of data subject to heightened legal protection. (Note: passkey sign-in does NOT submit biometric data — see §1A; it processes biometrics locally on your device.)
Violations may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account; removal of content; IP, device, or network-level blocking; revocation of any API access; reversal of any actions taken via the prohibited use; and where appropriate, referral to law enforcement or civil action for damages, injunctive relief, and attorneys' fees. We may, but are not obliged to, attempt to contact you before taking enforcement action.
6. Reporting & moderation
If you encounter content or behavior on the Service that violates these Terms, please report it via the
report form. We review reports and may remove content, warn users, suspend accounts, or take other actions at our discretion. We may also act on content proactively, including using automated systems. Our enforcement decisions are not appealable as a matter of right; we may, but are not obliged to, re-review on request.
7. Messaging, SMS, and WhatsApp sharing
Trendosity offers buttons that open your phone's native messaging app (iMessage, default SMS, WhatsApp, etc.) with a pre-filled message containing a link to one of your Trendosity lists. You — not Trendosity — choose the recipient and tap send. Standard text-messaging rates from your mobile carrier may apply; if your plan does not include unlimited messaging, your carrier may charge you for each message sent or received. WhatsApp shares travel over your data connection; standard data rates may apply when not on Wi-Fi. International and roaming rates apply when texting international numbers or while roaming. Because every message originates from your own device to a recipient you personally chose, the share flow does not constitute automated or autodialed messaging under the U.S. Telephone Consumer Protection Act (47 U.S.C. § 227), and you remain responsible for ensuring you have the recipient's permission to message them. Full details:
Messaging Notice.
8. Recs are personal opinions
Recommendations on Trendosity are personal opinions of individual users. They are not professional advice, not endorsements, and not warranties. We do not verify the accuracy, safety, legality, qualifications, or licensing status of any business, person, service, or product recommended on the platform. Always do your own research before relying on a rec. For health, legal, financial, or other professional matters, consult a qualified, licensed professional in your jurisdiction.
9. Friends, visibility, and shareable links
By default, recs you post are visible only to people in your circle (friends you have mutually accepted). You can mark a rec public, or make your profile public, in which case the rec or your public recs become readable by anyone with the link or who finds you on the Service.
Once a rec is public or you have shared it outside the Service, you cannot control further redistribution. Removing a friend stops them from seeing your future circle-only recs but does not retroactively delete copies they may have already viewed or saved. Visiting a user's shareable list link and signing in may auto-create a mutual friendship with that user (we tell you this before sign-in); you can remove that friendship from
Friends.
10. Third-party services & links
The Service integrates with third-party platforms (e.g., Google Sign-In, Google Maps/Places, Google Drive Picker, Google People API, your phone's native messaging apps, WhatsApp, Supabase, Vercel). Your use of those platforms is governed by their own terms and privacy policies; we are not responsible for them. The Service may also contain links to third-party websites. We do not endorse and are not responsible for the content, products, or practices of those sites.
11. Intellectual property; trademarks
The Service's software, design, brand, logos, and other materials (excluding Your Content and third-party content) are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms. “Trendosity”, the Trendosity logo, and related brand elements are our trademarks; you may not use them without our prior written permission, except for ordinary descriptive references.
DMCA / copyright complaints. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent at our contact form with: (a) your physical or electronic signature; (b) identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed; (c) identification of the material and its location on the Service; (d) your contact information; (e) a statement of good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized; and (f) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf. Counter-notices may be sent to the same address. Repeat infringers will have accounts terminated.
12. Account closure & data export
You can permanently delete your account anytime from
Settings → Delete my account. Doing so removes your profile, recs, saves, friendships, and invite links from the active Service within 30 days, except: (i) backups retained for a limited period for disaster recovery; (ii) information we are legally required to retain (e.g., transaction records, abuse reports); and (iii) information that has been de-identified or aggregated for analytics. You can export a JSON copy of your data anytime from
Settings → Download my data.
13. Suspension & termination by us
We may suspend or terminate your access to all or part of the Service at any time, with or without notice, for any reason — including suspected violation of these Terms, suspected fraud or abuse, threats to other users or to the Service, sustained inactivity, end of the research preview, or as required by law. If we believe a violation is ongoing or imminent we may take immediate action without prior notice. Termination does not relieve you of obligations that by their nature survive (e.g., indemnities, license grants for previously shared public content, dispute-resolution terms).
14. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, AND QUIET ENJOYMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE FROM UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, OR FREE OF VIRUSES. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY REC OR OTHER USER-GENERATED CONTENT IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, RELIABLE, OR LEGAL.
15. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEITHER TRENDOSITY NOR ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR CONTRIBUTORS WILL BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100), OR (B) THE AMOUNTS YOU HAVE PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE CLAIM. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THESE LIMITATIONS — IN THOSE JURISDICTIONS OUR LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
16. Indemnification
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Trendosity, its officers, employees, agents, and contributors from and against any third-party claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (i) your use of the Service in violation of these Terms; (ii) Your Content; (iii) your interactions with other users; or (iv) your violation of any law or third-party right.
17. Governing law
These Terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
18. Dispute resolution; binding individual arbitration; class-action waiver
Please read this section carefully — it affects your legal rights.
(a) Informal resolution. Before filing any claim, you agree to try to resolve the dispute informally by writing to our contact form with a description of the claim and the relief sought. We'll do the same before bringing a claim against you. The parties will negotiate in good faith for 60 days before either side may bring a formal claim.
(b) Binding arbitration. If we can't resolve a dispute informally, you and Trendosity agree that any claim, dispute, or controversy arising from or relating to these Terms, the Service, or our relationship will be resolved exclusively by final and binding individual arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules, in New York County, New York, before a single arbitrator. Arbitration is conducted in English. The arbitrator has exclusive authority to resolve any dispute about the interpretation, applicability, enforceability, or formation of this agreement to arbitrate, including any claim that all or part of it is void or voidable.
(c) Class-action waiver. YOU AND TRENDOSITY AGREE THAT EACH OF US MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN OUR INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS, COLLECTIVE, REPRESENTATIVE, OR PRIVATE-ATTORNEY-GENERAL ACTION OR PROCEEDING. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims, may not preside over any form of consolidated, representative, or class proceeding, and may award relief (including monetary, injunctive, and declaratory relief) only in favor of the individual party seeking relief and only to the extent necessary to provide relief to that individual.
(d) Exceptions. Either party may bring an individual action in small-claims court if the claim qualifies and remains pending only there. Either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent actual or threatened infringement of intellectual-property rights.
(e) Opt-out. You may opt out of binding arbitration and the class-action waiver by sending written notice to our contact form within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. Your notice must include your name, the email associated with your account, and a clear statement that you are opting out of arbitration. Opting out will not affect any other provisions of these Terms.
(f) Severability. If the class-action waiver is held unenforceable as to a claim, that claim alone is severed from arbitration and litigated in court; the rest of this section remains in force.
19. Export controls & sanctions
You may not use or export the Service in violation of U.S. or other applicable export-control or sanctions laws. You represent that you are not located in, under the control of, or a national or resident of any country embargoed by the U.S. and that you are not on any U.S. or other government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
20. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes we will give you reasonable notice — at least 7 days in advance via in-app notification, email, or both — before the change takes effect. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms; if you don't agree, please stop using the Service and delete your account.
21. Entire agreement; severability; assignment; survival
These Terms, together with our
Privacy Statement and
Messaging Notice, constitute the entire agreement between you and Trendosity regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements. If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted by law and the remaining provisions will continue in full force. We may assign these Terms or our rights and obligations under them at any time, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets; you may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (e.g., Sections 3, 11, 14–18, 21) survive.
22. Notices
Notices to you may be sent to the email associated with your account or posted in the Service. Notices to us must be sent to
our contact form and to our mailing address (available on request).
